This course will help you to adequately express yourself in context-specific situations. Our focus lies with listening and reading comprehension as well as with oral communication.
With the help of science-related listening and reading exercises, you will increase your use of specific vocabulary. Presentations, situation-related exercises and group discussions will serve as a basis for practicing vocabulary and solidifying an understanding of technical terms.

This course is designed to improve students understanding and use of general engineering terms with particular emphasis on oral communication. Students will practice how to simplify technical language so that engineering terms and processes are understandable for various audiences. We will work in a standard classroom setting as well as online. Face-to-face as well as online presentations will be held, enabling students to practice and recognize the differences here in presentation styles. In a technical context, students will also further develop reading and listening comprehension strategies. Writing skills will focus on e-mails, memos, note-taking as well as written summaries of meetings and presentations.

Lehrinhalte
This German-Polish E-tandem course between the National Fachhochschule in Konin and the Technische Universität Darmstadt is a joint language course that will take place simultaneously from both the German and Polish universities.
In alternating tandems Polish learners from Darmstadt and German learners from Konin will address socio-political themes from both the German and Polish perspective, including climate change, global trends, developmental perspectives, cultural mentalities, the future of a united Europe and the language of youth. The themes will be organized so that even students with only a basic knowledge of Polish may take part.
Requirements for the final grade will consist of developing a product together with your Polish tandem partner based on one of the selected themes. This product will then be presented to the rest of the class. Products could be in the form of an annotated databank with relevant articles and links, results of a survey, a journalistic report, a podcast, etc.
