The Netflix series Black Mirror offers a haunting exploration of contemporary and future society, particularly as it relates to technology and human nature. Furthermore, it addresses basic problems in the philosophy of mind and consciousness, as well as core issues in the field of ethics and social and political philosophy.
In the seminar, we will combine watching selected episodes with reading classical and contemporary philosophical texts that thematically connect to the topic of a respective episode. This will allow us to systematically deepen the questions that are raised there.
In at least five of the sessions, guests will be invited to the seminar who will present a selected episode, give us a short introduction from their philosophical point of view and discuss it with us.
