This course is designed to introduce students to the practical application and theo-retical foundations of IT systems that support managerial decision making. It covers Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Business Intelligence (BI) and has a focus on both benefits and limitations of corresponding IT systems. The course provides insights into concepts behind decision making, the various phases of the decision making process and DSS/BI concepts. Furthermore, there it provides an introduction to selected data mining techniques such as decision trees, artificial neural networks (ANN), and support vector machines (SVM). The course addresses practical issues of complex decisions and explores dataset requirements, time restrictions and computational requirements of different approaches.
