The course will consider the product development process in an interdisciplinary approach. Based on a example of the topic "Building with paper", lectures are given on all aspects of the process chain (material selection and design, chemical functionalization, design and dimensioning of semifinished products and components as well as a finished structure). The contents of the lectures are also deepened in interdisciplinary small groups by means of practical experiments and the results are presented as part of a final presentation as well as a demonstrator (haptic model).

In addition to the lectures, tutorials are usually offered one week after the respective lecture. The tutorials can be arranged in consultation with the scientific staff.
Official Course Description
The Loewe project BAMP! - Bauen mit Papier is a research cluster sponsored by the state of Hesse at the TU Darmstadt since January 1, 2017. It is an interdisciplinary approach for the development of paper as a building material. Paper is inexpensive to produce, consists predominantly of renewable raw material, offers very good strength properties with regard to the weight of the product and is relatively easy to chemically functionalize. For applications such as façade elements with high thermal insulation effect or as shell structure elements, three-dimensional deformability, weathering and long-term stability, and other properties are missing.
Goal of BAMP! is to eliminate the still existing shortcomings in the basics, to use synergies from the participating disciplines and a systematic development methodology along the material processing chain. This requires new design approaches and known material properties have to be adapted to the new requirements. Manufacturing technology must also be further developed. In this course, we will show you the latest research approaches and offer a unique opportunity to be a part of the product creation process.

Due to the number of departments and institutes involved, the number of participants is limited. A [b]two-stage application procedure[/b] is required to participate in the event:
1.) The binding registration for the course will be made by registering at the Secretariat of the PTU (for students of FB 16), in the Secretariat of the ISMD (for students of the FB 13), in the Secretariat of the Department of Plastic Design (for students of the FB 15) and in the Secretariat of the MAP (for students of FB 7).
2.) Registration for the module, the course and the examination in TuCAN.
The registration has to be done in the participant lists as well as in TuCAN by 12.04.2017. No later registration will be considered. A direct registration after the above steps is binding for participation in the event.
