Lehrinhalte
The seminar covers theoretical and practical knowledge to enable the students to carry out mathematical simulations of wastewater treatment plants.

The course introduces the fundamentals of mathematical modelling and modelling of the biochemical processes.

We will implement simple models for carbon and nitrogen removal in differnt reactor types.

Based on that the students will get hands on experience with software tools to simulated the complete wastwater treatment plant.

Content:
- introdcution to simulation
- introduction to the software tools (e.g. Aquasim, BioWin, Simba, Sumo)
- influent fractionation
- activated sludge models (ASM)
- biofilm models
- problem oriented approach with mathematical modelling

Qualification goals:
The students should have indepth knowleddge of the mathematical simulation of the bio-chemical reactions in simple reactor systems applicable to wastewater treament.

The students are able to built models of wastewater treatment plants and use the appropriate software tool for problem solving. They are able to independently solve tasks within this context.

The students are able to apply the aquired knowledge to concret problems and situations within wastewater treament.
