Lehrinhalte
The so-called 'Goethezeit' describes the classical period of German literature measured according to the creative years of Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1770-1830). The canon of German classics is essentially determined by works from this period. If you look at who belongs to these classics, you will almost exclusively find men. How is that possible? We will find an answer to this question in the seminar. In contrast to England and France, the classical period of German literature coincided with the transition to autonomy aesthetics and the genius epoch, which wanted to banish all non-art purposes from poetry. The contemporary novels of women, which were dismissed as trivial or trend literature, although or perhaps because they were immensely popular, fell particularly victim to this ideology. In the seminar we will therefore question the concept of 'Goethezeit' and deal with what was actually read at the time in question.
