While Multilevel Governance can still be deemed a rather young research area - particularly in comparison with many other 'classic' subdisciplines of political science, MLG as concept and related research have meanwhile become wholly established after three decades. Against this backdrop, this Master Seminar aspires to deal with selected, mainly more recent contributions to arrangements and developments of multilevel governance. Following an introductory, compact review of the basics of multilevel governance, the course will deal with MLG-research in the following main areas: MLG and the state, MLG and policymaking, and democratic governing in multilevel systems. The overarching goal is to gain deeper knowledge of basic and newer concepts as well as challenges - especially regarding governing capacity, but also democratic legitimacy - in the context of multilevel governance.
