How can images, text, colour, material, media explain issues of all kind in a proper way ? Graphic design deals with that question. Graphic design is alphabetising, formatting, cataloguing, selecting, separating, following rules, breaking rules, editing, curating, radicalising, emotionalising, tempting, simplifying – graphic design ideally boosts ideas and concepts and supports communication. The Graphic Design-course wants to pass on knowledge about this discipline’s basics. Particular attention will be paid to billboards, we want to examine the interaction of font, image and advertisement in today’s public space. Can we find out something about our society by taking a look at the city’s billboards or is advertising taking place just in the internet by personalised directly addressed commercials to the individual ? Is there a chance to reduce commercials in the city’s public space by shifting consume into the digital universe ?
