Lehrinhalte
Audience: Students of civil-engineering, mechanics, maths, physics
The lecture provides an introduction to the linear finite element method (FEM I) especially for problems of structural mechanics.
- Variational formulations
- 2D and 3D truss and beam structures
- Membranes, plates and rotating shells
- Groundwater flow
- Mixed element formulations
- Error considerations, convergence, mesh refinement
Exercises:
Weekly computer-exercises applying a finite-element software (FEAP) bridge the gap between theory and application to engineering problems. A written elaboration of the weekly exercises is prerequisite for the oral examination.
Examination:
oral, 30 minutes
Credit points: 6
Literatur
to be announced in the lectures
Zienkiewicz, Taylor: The Finite Element Method, 2Bde. Mc Graw-Hill
Book Co., London 4th ed. 1989
Hughes: The Finite Element Method, linear and dynamic finite element
analysis. Prentice-Hall, Englewood Hills, New Jersey 07632
Voraussetzungen
Basics of mathematics and mechanics (Vordiplom, Bachelor) are necessary;
additional knowledge in structural mechanics (Statik 4) are helpful.
