Lehrinhalte
This course provides students with an introduction to Industrial Organisation, i.e. the study of competition and firm behaviour.
We start with analysing markets where a small number of firms yield market power and interact strategically (I. Imperfect Competition), and study the sources of such market power, among them product differentiation (II. Product Differentiation). Next, we zoom in and familiarise ourselves with the determinants of how firms price their products (III. Pricing Behaviour). Finally, we study how regulators think about imperfect competition and how they typically adress the issue (IV. Competition Policy), as well as several more specialised topics like innovation and networks (V. Further Topics).
This course provides solid basics in the field and complements many aspects in business studies with an economic perspective. Moreover, it teaches essential concepts required in many business career-paths like consulting.
