Lehrinhalte
This lecture is accompanied by 'tutorial sessions' led by qualified student teaching assistants. It introduces students of psychology, education, and sports science to basic research methods in the human sciences. The goal is to present/discuss the common core of research methods in the social sciences. To that effect, the crucial steps in the research endeavor are analyzed (largely excluding statistical methods which are taught in separate courses). These are the major topics of the course:

[*]Basic research approaches for empirical studies (experiments, correlative research, qualitative methods)
[*]Quality standards for scientific research
[*]Specific methods of data collection (e.g., observation, interview, content analysis, survey, experiment)

[*]Threats to the validity of research plans: Internal, external, and statistical conclusion validity
[*]Ethical issues in social-science research
[*]Accountable reporting on scientific results: Proper scientifc writing style in education, psychology, and sports science
