Official Course Description
Governance, in vogue since the early 1990s, refers to forms of political coordination n which private actors are involved in decision-making alongside governments and administrations. In addition to majoritarian decision-making and hierarchical administrative intervention, socially binding coordination of action takes place through negotiations between numerous governmental and private actors. Governance can be found at various levels - from international politics to new forms of governance at the local and regional levels. Moreover, a "shift from government to governance" is reflected in various ways in the transformation of organizational forms and inter-organizational relations of the public sector, associations, and civil society, as well as in the corporate sector.

The lecture will take the form of a lecture series. It is dedicated to the different aspects and applications of the governance concept as well as to its critical examination.
