Official Course Description
Citizen Science is a concept that involves interested lay people, i.e. non-scientists, in research processes. Activities such as insect or bird counting (‚Insektensommer‘, ‚Stunde der Gartenvögel‘) are particularly well known. Although there is a focus on the natural sciences, participation opportunities are now diverse and possible in all fields of research, increasingly also in the humanities. Digital participation formats (e.g. transcribing historical documents) open up particularly good possibilities here. In the seminar, we will deal with the concepts and fields of Public Humanities and Citizen Science, analyse Citizen Science projects in the humanities and design further digital formats.
