Digital Teaching
The different PDP events are expected to be conducted as follows:
- HelpDesk: in presence
- Coaching: virtually via Zoom
- Approval presentations and final presentation: in presence

Course Contents
The Product Design Project (PDP) is an independent course organized in cooperation between the Institute for Mechatronic Systems in Mechanical Engineering (IMS) and the Institute for Product Development and Machine Elements (pmd).
In terms of subject matter, it belongs to the courses Machine Elements and Mechatronics. Basically, the tasks of the PDP are worked on in small groups and are divided into three parts:
- Conception (IMS & pmd)
- Modeling and simulation (IMS)
- Deteiled design (pmd)

Further information will be announced on Moodle.

Further Grading Information
Assessment methods
Special type: Product development project (Continuous assessment procedure: report simulation (1/3) and report construction (1/3) as well as oral presentations (team presentations colloquium: 20 min); presentations of the concept (concept release) and the simulation (simulation release)

Official Course Description
Design of a mechantronic system; requirement list; formation of variants; dynamic analysis; system modeling and behavior simulation; design optimization; design of the entire system; 3-D modeling; derivation of technical drawings with bill of materials; systematic evaluation.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Apply the acquired knowledge about machine elements and mechatronics I and II and associated skills (sketching, drawing, CAD, calculation, simulation) when developing mechatronic products from task to embodiment design in a team.
2. Identify approaches for product optimization (features of mechatronics systems like function, dynanic behaviour, weight, costs etc.) on different levels of abstractions and to optimize well-founded and goal-oriented mechtronic products.
3. Present and to document their solutions convincingly stating the advantages and disadvantages.
4. Assess realisticly the difficulties (possible problems) of design process

Sustainability Reference of the Course Contents
The assignment deals with an innovative product idea chosen against the background of sustainability. The students are encouraged to consider the sustainability aspect in the product development.
