Course Contents
This course provides a state-of-the-art foundation in the field of International Trade. In the first part of the course, we cover the history of neoclassical thinking about international trade flows, inequality, and welfare. On this basis we study international trade policy instruments, i.e. their mechanics and consequences. In the second part, we focus on the role of firms in international commerce, including multinational companies. The course provides an introduction to the relevant conceptual frameworks and gives an overview of the key empirical patterns in trade. Students will be enabled to understand and remember the main forces and considerations that shape the international activities of firms and aggregate trade as well as welfare. Moreover, we analyse the impact of policies by applying theoretical models and empirical evidence.
