This course teaches the design and construction of masonry structures. Special design approaches as well as structural details of masonry constructions are discussed according to the current standards. In addition, a brief presentation of the basic principles of building physics relevant to masonry constructions is given. Then, besides the lecture the practical handling of masonry is deepened in the form of exercises.
Finally, also special topics of reinforced concrete construction such as e.g. methods of structural analysis or buckling behavior of reinforced concrete members are still integrated in the lecture.

The contents of the lectures in detail:
- Fundamentals of the material behavior of masonry
- Design of reinforced and unreinforced masonry according to EC 6
- Special components and construction details
- Fundamentals of building physics
- Deformation and buckling behaviour of reinforced concrete members
- Different methods of structural analysis of reinforced concrete structures
