Course Contents
This course is designed for students who have successfully passed German Basic Course II/III or who have sufficient points in the placement test. In this course, which is relevant for the UNIcert I exam and can be taken at the same time as or after German Basic Course IV/V, we will get to know and also practice oral communication in a university context. Topics such as: introducing oneself, typical university routines, the world of work, mobility, intercultural communication and an introduction to the use of numbers (e.g. in graphic descriptions) in an academic context are included.

Practice of specific grammar topics (e.g. word position, function of subordinate clauses, and verbs with prepositions) will help you with the structure and correctness of your oral communication skills, which are important for the UNIcert I exam.

Most discussions will take place in small groups, where you will learn the idioms for discussing, mediating, negotiating, and inquiring. Performative speaking will also be practiced and tested. The requirement for course completion consists of midterm learning assessments and final learning assessments in the areas of grammar and discussion, as well as completion of Moodle assignments.

To obtain the UNIcert I certificate in German, you need the courses German Basic Course IV/V as well as Discussing and Grammar completed with a grade AND the UNIcert I examination. The cumulative acquisition (without additional examination) is possible with German Basic Course I, II/III, IV/V as well as Discussing and Grammar, all completed with a grade.
