Official Course Description
At the annual meeting of the “World Economic Forum” in Davos in January 2023, there was repeated critical, but perhaps not too late, debate about the de-globalization and fragmentation of the current world order, voiced primarily by the global North: Is this the end for Western civilization and the rise for other parts of the world? “Glocalization: from West-Asia to West-Europe” points to the ascent of an era that we are witnessing as active and passive participants, and which is strongly manifested through transnational migration, natural disasters, everyday socio-cultural connections and divisions, among others. This seminar will focus on two regional interdependent geographies that are strongly shaped by, among other things, political, linguistic, political-economic, and civilizational parameters: West-Asia and West-Europe. In between of these two continents are many nation-states that will be partly discussed in this seminar. Glocalization might be therefore one of the most interesting ideas, considerations, and urgent responses to our current history, its sustainability and a hopefully more calculable future. This seminar is an approach to the idea of Glocalization!
