Course Contents
This four skills course aims to improve students’ oral and written communication skills in civil engineering. The grammatical focus will include a review of verb tenses, word order, prepositions, definite and indefinite articles, false friends, etc. Writing and oral discussion skills requiring understanding and effective communication of specialized civil engineering vocabulary will take place in the context of small group and pair activities.

Learning outcomes
This scientific/technical course is designed for B.Sc. students of civil engineering to take them from mid (mid B2) to high intermediate (high B2) English language proficiency. Students will be able to
- understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization
- interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party
- produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options

Preconditions
A score between 55 and 64 on the placement test
