Course Contents
Selected chapters from mathematics in their cultural-historical context. In particular we address:
-Outline of the history of mathematics;
-Impulses for mathematics from society, philosophy, astronomy, and geography;
-Numbers from antiquity to modern times;
-Irrational numbers, Fibonacci numbers, continued fractions;
-Infinity from Zenon to Cantor;
-Infinitely small quantities, measure theory, and non-standard analysis.
