Digital Teaching
The course material and announcements for the lecture and the exercises are provided via Moodle. If it is not possible to offer face-to-face lectures, they will be offered digitally as live transmission and/or recording. The access data to transmission platforms will be communicated in the Moodle course.

Course Contents
Note: Course will be held in German language only

Module content in general: historical development of water supply and disposal; legal basis, policy, industry associations; water quality, basic water treatment processes.

Introduction to water supply: Water availability, resources, water harvesting; water pumping; water storage, storage management; water distribution, supply networks.

Introduction to sewage disposal: wastewater quantities and qualities (wastewater characteristics and analysis parameters), water quality (assessment of water bodies according to the Water Framework Directive, effects of discharge of wastewater into surface waters), legal basics (requirements of operating wastewater treatment plants), wastewater discharge (drainage systems and dimensioning methods of the local sewer system), structures of the local sewer system (sewer structures, wastewater pumping stations and its restructuring)

Introduction to wastewater treatment: mechanical wastewater treatment (introduction and basic dimensioning), biological wastewater treatment (introduction to biology, introduction to the activated sludge process (incl. secondary sedimentation and aeration), basic dimensioning of activated sludge processes (carbon elimination)), introduction to sludge treatment (sludge quantities and characteristics, objectives of sludge treatment)
