The crime case collection "Der neue Pitaval", which was published annually between 1842 and and 1890, comprises 740 case histories, which are not only important for crime literature to this day, but also had a decisive influence on the emergence of a modern legal consciousness in Germany. In the seminar we will deal with the historical function of this collection between law and literature. In doing so, we will analyze individual texts as well as the entire corpus. Knowledge of methods of digital text analysis is an advantage for attending the seminar, but not a necessary condition. For preparation please read: Thomas Weitin: Recht und Literatur. Münster 2010.
