Course Contents
In the optional module facade technology, the functionality of facades and the most important aspects in implementing them into buildings are explained. The state of the art is presented and areas for potential research are addressed.
Topics of current importance include intelligent facades with focus on thermal performance as well as new types of glass products (including smart glass, vacuum insulating glass) and the sustainability assessment of old and new systems.
Besides a lecture series, the module includes a practical component. The goal here is to develop new types of facade systems, evaluate their sustainability and integrate them into buildings. Furthermore, experts (facade builders, architects...) will present practical challenges of implementing facades in buildings to the students.
