[b]Digital Health:[/b] As the Corona pandemic has impressively demonstrated, digitalization in the healthcare sector is crucial and can save lives in doubt. However, despite the general recognition of the importance of this topic, especially in the face of a prevailing shortage of personnel and an aging society, the digitalization process is still lengthy and offerings are often not adopted. Particularly in Germany, there is a significant backlog in digital infrastructure compared to many other European countries.
This module aims to provide a comprehensive initial insight into the digitalization of healthcare. Both the complexity of implementation and the technological potential are taken into account. We will examine the framework conditions for digital applications in the German healthcare system, involving different actors: from outpatient practices and pharmacies to hospitals and patients. In addition, we will take a closer look at the regulatory and financial framework conditions. The consideration is guided by theoretical models that understand information systems as socio-technical systems. In this context, we focus on the interfaces between technology, task, health context, and human. We examine the interplay of these different factors using various application examples from research and practice. For example, these include supporting the everyday health behavior of patients through the use of smartphones (mHealth), using data analysis in hospitals, or using AI systems to support medical diagnostics in radiology. In addition, this module includes guest lectures and case studies, allowing the theoretical knowledge to be linked with practical problems.
