Course Contents
Students will learn about different aspects of earth system research. Earth system research analyzes global environmental changes in an interdisciplinary context. It mainly considers interactions between the Earth's "spheres" - atmosphere, hydrosphere, cryosphere, geosphere, pedosphere, biosphere, and, even, the magnetosphere - as well as the impact of human societies on these components. The lecture aims to discuss current research approaches in earth system sciences. It also shows interdisciplinary connections.

Sustainability Reference of the Course Contents
Researchers from various disciplines present different components of the earth system and ask how they have changed under human influence. The environmental consequences (e.g. climate crisis, loss of biodiversity) are made visible and the urgency of sustainable action is emphasized.
