Course Contents
In this module, the fundamentals of materials science and engineering are taught. Particular focus is on the structure, mechanical and surface properties of metals ceramics amd polymers and how these properties determine the behaviour as an implant material under mechanical and corrosive load.
The following topics will be discussed:
- Chemical bonding and structure of materials,
- classes of material (metals, ceramics, glasses, polymers, semiconductors, and compo-site materials),
- mechanical properties of materials,
- polymeric, metallic and ceramic materials in medical technology.
Preconditions
“Physics I” and “Physics II”
