Machine tools represent a significant factor in the manufacturing industry. In addition to the wide range of applications, modern machine tools are characterized as complex mechatronic systems with a high degree of automation. According to the technological processes, machine tools are subdivided into forming, cutting and joining machines. Within the scope of these lectures, machine tools for forming as well as for separating - cutting, chipping and removing workpieces as well as for handling are discussed. Due to the high performance and accuracy requirements of modern machine tools, the optimized design of individual machine components must be learned. For this purpose, comprehensive knowledge of the physical and technical properties of machine elements and drives as well as their control and regulation is taught. In addition, methods for monitoring and safety-related assessment of the machines in the context of Industry 4.0 will be taught.
