Digital Teaching
For the course "Advanced Fluid Mechanics II", the regular face to face lecture will be offered in the summer semester 2023. As an additional service, we will offer electronic material for self-study. The lecture notes and exercises will be available in the Moodle course.

Course Contents
Two main topics:
Flows of non-Newtonian fluids and fundamentals of gas dynamics.

In detail:
(i) Derivation of the basic equations of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics;
(ii) Flows of generalized Newtonian fluids;
(iii) Flows of viscoelastic fluids;
(iv) Acoustic waves and their reflection/transmission.
(v) Stream filament theory.
(vi) Vertical and oblique compression shocks.

Official Course Description
Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

1. describe incompressible and compressible flows in a differentiated manner and explain balance equations.
2. identify various flow properties of non-Newtonian fluids.
3. treat flow problems of non-Newtonian fluids
4. understand various modelings and behavior of viscoelastic fluids
5. develop a basic understanding of acoustic phenomena and reflection and transmission
6. explain Doppler effect
7. establish jump conditions at phase boundaries and in compressional shocks.
8. solve problems with shock waves

Additional Information
The exercise will take place on selected dates instead of the lecture. The exercise dates and exercise sheets will be announced in time on Moodle.
