DIE GEGENWART DES VERGANGENEN –
MYZELIUMMANUFAKTUR PORTO FLAVIA
 
In den 1920er Jahren verzeichnet die Förderung von Zink und Blei auf Sardinien ihren Höchststand. Um das unmittelbare Einschiffen des Minerals, das für die Hütten Nord-Europas bestimmt war zu ermöglichen, erdenkt Cesare Vecceli ein gewagtes, zwischen Himmel und Meer schwebendes Meisterwerk der Ingenieurbaukunst. Nachdem in den 1990er Jahren die Mineralienproduktion gestoppt wird liegen die Stollen und Silos brach.
 
Da die vorhandenen Anlagen bestens für die Anzucht für Myzelium geeignet sind, soll das Denkmal der industriellen Archäologie neu zur Rohstoffentwicklung gedacht werden, ergänzt um Werkstätten, Labore und Experimentierfelder. In der Fortschreibung des Vergangenen in die Gegenwart ist ein Dialog zwischen Kontinuität, Kohärenz und Innovation zu führen. Dies erfordert einen sorgfältigen Umgang mit der bestehenden Struktur die gleichsam mutig zu erweitern und an neue Bedürfnisse anzupassen ist. Gesucht ist eine sinnfällige, sinnstiftende und Anmut erzeugende Weiterführung, mit subtilen Schnittstellen zwischen dem Bestehenden und dem Hinzugefügten, mit feinfühligen Übergängen und raffinierten architektonischen Zwischenräumen, um das historische Erbe zu revitalisieren und die Transformation des Ortes erfahrbar zu machen.
 
Im Rahmen eines open Studios suchen wir gemeinsam nach einer poetischen Symbiose mit dem einzigartigen Naturschauspiel der Sardischen Landschaft und zugleich nach charaktervollen Räumen innerhalb und außerhalb der bestehenden Stollen und Silos, die Myzel als den Baustoff der Zukunft feiern.

THE PRESENCE OF THE PAST -
MYCELIUM MANUFACTORY PORTO FLAVIA
 
In the 1920s, the extraction of zinc and lead in Sardinia was at an all-time high. Cesare Vecceli devised a daring masterpiece of engineering suspended between the sky and the sea to enable the mineral, which was destined for the smelters of northern Europe, to be loaded directly onto ships. After mineral production was stopped in the 1990s, the tunnels and silos lay idle.
 
As the existing facilities are ideally suited for the cultivation of mycelium, the monument to industrial archaeology is to be rethought for the development of raw materials, supplemented with workshops, laboratories and experimental fields. In the continuation of the past into the present, a dialogue between continuity, coherence and innovation must be conducted. This requires careful handling of the existing structure, which must be boldly expanded and adapted to new needs. We are looking for a continuation that makes sense and creates grace, subtle interfaces between the existing and the added, transitions and refined architectural spaces in order to revitalise the historical heritage and make the transformation of the site tangible.
 
In the context of an open studio, we are looking together for a poetic symbiosis with the unique natural spectacle of the Sardinian landscape and at the same time for spaces full of character inside and outside the existing tunnels and silos, which celebrates mycelium as the building material of the future.
