Course Contents
Potential defects and damages due to environmental or mechanical actions, may affect the structural integrity and/or may cause compatibility issues of concrete or masonry structures. Buildings can be negatively affected in terms of materials degradation and/or steel corrosion followed by crack propagation, while damaging the building material and causing loss of structural integrity. Analysis of the damage processes and assessment of a building´s actual condition is necessary for establishing maintenance plans. The state of technology, as well as the possibilities of a professional renovation are thoroughly presented. The students are familiarized with potential damages to buildings, analysis methods, potential repair methods, and execution of maintenance work. Students will do exercises with different analysis and detection methods, which will be explained and demonstrated, and applied to damaged concrete and/or masonry structures.
