Advanced Soil Mechanics

By combining fundamental principles of soil mechanics with more intricate elements concerning stress-strain soil behaviour, drainage conditions, and partial saturation, this course aims to consolidate the knowledge learned in undergraduate courses and dispel any misunderstandings about soil strength and stress-strain behaviours. Upon completing this course, you will possess the ability to analyse and describe soil mechanical relationships in a mathematically and physically sound manner, while recognising the limitations of basic engineering models. Moreover, you will acquire knowledge of the basic principles of constitutive modelling in geotechnical engineering, which is the basis for the increasingly widespread use of the finite element method in practice for the design of geotechnical structures.
