Our own school is firmly anchored in our memories. The first classroom, the break hall, the long corridors. Did I feel at home? Did the building become my home? After leaving school, you usually don't go back until your children start school, unless you have chosen the teaching profession. Today's schools fulfill their intended purpose of teaching the curriculum until the early afternoon. After that, they are empty until the next morning. Even after-school care takes place in their own premises.
Last semester, we examined typical vacancies and we would like to build on this. The multiple use of buildings represents a hitherto barely exploited potential with regard to the sustainable use of space, building land and resources.
You design a building, an educational building, which is more than adequate for the use of a school during the day. In the afternoon, all rooms can be used for other activities such as after-school care, sports, senior citizens' afternoons, club life or adult education courses. In the evenings, the auditorium is transformed into a cinema, the canteen into the bar of the youth club and at weekends the summer festival Theaterakademie takes place in the schoolyard. Rethink the typology of the school.
