Digital Teaching
This seminar takes place online (via Zoom).

Course Contents
Artificial intelligence is on the rise – and it is about to change the world as we know it. This does not only concern the question how we work, but also how we interact with each other, how our societies function, and how we conceptualize our relationship to technology.
In this seminar, we will take a closer look at current debates about digitalization and AI. We will examine the historicity of current developments in AI as well as their theoretical and ethical implications and their political impact.
How has our world changed with the advance of AI, and what kind of changes will we see in the years to come? How has our relationship towards technology changed? How can we tackle the political challenges of AI and foster democracy?
In particular, we will take a closer look at the relationship between humans, technology and society and we will consider how the digital transformation affects everyday life, ethical questions, and political relationships.
To discuss these questions, we will work with historical, philosophical, and political sources.
The aim of the seminar is to gain an understanding of the basics of interdisciplinary technology research and to acquire knowledge of scientific and technical developments in the context of digitalization as well as their historical and socio-political positioning. The focus of the seminar is interdisciplinary, i.e. we encourage students to pro-actively contribute to the seminar based on their own background and research interests.
Individual seminar sessions will focus on a selection of the following topics:
·     Basics in technology research
·     Political science perspectives on AI
·     Human-AI interactions
·     Discrimination and inequality in the age of AI
·     AI and democracy
·     Regulating AI – Mission Impossible?
