Healthcare Architecture: Children’s Hospitals in the Urban Context
In this seminar, students will explore the specific typology of children's hospitals. Using current case studies and interdisciplinary perspectives, the seminar examines the functional, emotional, and design-related requirements of healthcare buildings for children in urban environments. The focus is on integrating medical standards, child-friendly design, and the urban context.
A special emphasis is placed on international comparison: examples from various countries are examined — including Germany, Ukraine, and other regions around the world. The aim is to explore diverse planning approaches, cultural differences, and innovative solutions.
Students will analyze existing buildings, develop their own design concepts, and reflect on the role of architecture in children's healing processes and in public space. Current challenges such as sustainability, inclusion, flexibility, and resilience will also be discussed.
