The seminar focuses on corpus linguistic basics and various methods of corpus annotation. The main focus is on enriching text corpora with information in order to create new possibilities of analysis.
Especially in linguistic pragmatics, it is important that phenomena are included that are not only recognizable on the linguistic surface, but also have to be interpreted against the background of the context.
Therefore, on the one hand we deal with linguistic basic annotations such as Part-of-Speech-Tagging.
On the other hand, we will also focus on manual annotation methods and corresponding tools. We will concentrate on the operationalization of questions in the form of category systems. We will interpret passages close to the text and thus develop categories, but we will also work with a view to quantitative automated analysis.
This can be easily implemented digitally by working with collaborative digital annotation tools and by regularly exchanging information with various communication tools.
In each case, we will develop our own annotation projects on a topic of our choice, which will then be reflected on in the term paper.
This means that after some introductory online sessions in which introductory texts are discussed and questions about annotation methods and tools are clarified, independent projects will be developed. The seminar is therefore project-oriented and focused on research-based learning. We will regularly discuss the status of the projects online in project groups and in plenary sessions.
