Lehrinhalte
The course is designed to introduce students to the fundamental mechanisms of energy systems and the paradigm shift due to findings on the anthropogenic climate change which poses enormous challenges for the international community, governments, economies, societies and science. The energy transition as the most important strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions requires answers to questions such as “How much until when?” and “By whom and by which measures?” A successful coordination has to balance environmental, economic and social objectives of sustainability. Conflicts are inevitable: there are opportunities and threats as well as winners and - factual or supposed – losers. This will be illustrated for Germany and the international level. The course is complemented by a mandatory case study exercise in which student groups work on special topics independently.
