Narrative Walls: Tattooed Architecture
As part of the "Narrative Walls" seminar series, students will explore various forms of contemporary wall art, with a focus on painting and graphic design in urban environments.
Modern street art is an international and universal art form that is constantly evolving. It can be found in almost every city worldwide and manifests in diverse expressions—from large-scale murals created by professional artists that enhance urban spaces to graffiti that provoke mixed reactions. Street art possesses immense expressive power: it can symbolize protest, tell stories, motivate, or inspire.
In this seminar, students will be encouraged to interpret street art as a form of “tattooing” on the "skin" of a building. This concept is based on the analogy between personal self-expression through tattoos on one’s own body and the artistic transformation of buildings with which people interact daily.
Throughout the seminar, students will develop their own interpretations of "tattooed architecture." The best idea will be selected for a collaborative practical realization within a seminar room of the Department of Design and Urban Development.
