This course offers a detailed introduction to how we can use computer-based methods to study discourse, which is the way language is organised and used in social, political, and cultural settings. By combining ideas from computational linguistics, corpus linguistics, and discourse studies, the course helps students understand both the theory behind language use and the practical skills needed to analyze it. Students will learn how to use data and technology to explore how language shapes, reflects, and changes the stories and discussions that influence our society.
